Is Music haram in Islam or is it halal? Now for ages, this has been a debatable topic in the Islamic community. Many people bring out their own opinion about this telling us that it’s halal as long as it’s not vulgar. The saddest part is that the youth of the Islamic community agrees upon the fact that it is halal over the internet and practising it. You can see on websites like Quora, Facebook etc. Now lets come to music. What is music? It’s nothing but a sound which is created using objects(Instruments) not this point clearly.
Our Islamic scholars, few agree that it is halal, and few deny it by saying music is haram in Islam. Let us dive deep and find out what is the real source to figure this out. There are a countable number of Hadiths and verses from the holy Quran in a clear-cut way saying that music is haram in Islam.
Now there is an incident which took place in the life of our beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) before ALLAH(SWT) gave prophethood to him. When he was young, he received a marriage invitation. From those days till now no non-muslim’s marriage has gone without dancing, singing, music, and alcohol and even Muslim marriages are happening like that people are ignorant about Islam and want to mix up with the current society and trend.
When our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) witnessed that gathering, he felt tired and went to sleep this is the way ALLAH(SWT) protected our beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) from those haram things, and eventually, our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) missed out attending that marriage ceremony.
LEGIT PROVES SHOWING MUSIC IS HARAM IN ISLAM
Allah says in Surah Luqmaan (interpretation of the meaning):
“And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e., music, singing) to mislead (men) from the path of Allah…” [Luqmaan 31:6]
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
“Among my Ummah, there will certainly be people who permit zinaa, silk, alcohol, and musical instruments…” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari ta’leeqan, no. 5590; narrated as mawsool by al-Tabaraani and al-Bayhaqi. See al-Silsilah al-Saheehah by al-Albaani, 91)
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has quoted that people will permit things which are haram to be halal. Once a person is committed to music his intentions the way he feels all the things around him changes. Music is haram is Islam because it makes a person unstable.
It can be equivalent to drugs & alcohol only ALLAH(SWT) knows. For example, we have fallen so low to the degree that we are becoming closer to the devil without knowing ourselves. We should ask ourselves how? the answer is, do we pray Salah when we are depressed. Let’s take a moment as ask ourselves are we on the right track are we really following our Prophet’s (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) footsteps.
When we are depressed or broke or motivated or happy or mad whatever the situation might be what we do? We take our phones, or mp3 players plug in our headsets and start to listen to music, and what we say “bro hear these lyrics this is precisely my life right now man.”
Life is short my dear brothers and sisters lets prepare for Akirah. Put a full stop to the things which are haram at least try our way to get there eventually ALLAH(SWT) will help us overcome that.
