Friday prayer

Friday is also known as Jummah in Arabic. Its original meaning relates to Yawm al-Jum’ah in Arabic, meaning the Day of Assembly. Many non-Muslims may ask you and wonder why is Jummah prayer/Friday prayer so special or what is Friday prayer and why is it differs from other daily obligatory prayers.

Basically, Friday prayer or Jummah prayer is an obligatory prayer which can not be missed at any cost. Friday prayer holds so many valuable benefits which ALLAH(SWT)has blessed with.

We will be doomed if we were to miss this Friday prayer. This day can erase your small and minor sins completely and convert them into good deeds by the will of ALLAH(SWT).


“O you who believe! When the call is proclaimed for the Salah on Al-Jumu`ah (Friday), then hasten (Fas`aw) to the remembrance of Allah(SWT) and leave off business. That is better for you if you did but know!.

Then when the Salah is complete, you may disperse through the land, and seek the bounty of Allah(SWT), and remember Allah(SWT) much, that you may be successful.”

Surah Al-Jumu’ah (62:9-10)


Islamic prayer steps according to Muslim may vary but Friday prayer stands out of all other prayer in Islam. It has its own weight and benefits given by ALLAH(SWT). This day holds many events which have occurred in past and has events going to come in near future.

ALLAH(SWT) created Adam(PBUH) on the day of Friday. Adam(PBUH) was sent down to Earth on the day of Friday. The Last Hour will strike on the day of Friday.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The five daily prayers, and from one Jumu’ah to the next, are an expiation for whatever sins come in between, so long as one does not commit any major sin.”

Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever does ghusl then comes to Jumu’ah, and prays as much as Allah decrees for him, then listens attentively until the khutbah is over, then prays with him (the imam), will be forgiven for (his sins) between that and the next Jumu’ah and three more days.

Abu Hurayrah narrated (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever does ghusl on Friday like ghusl, then goes to the prayer (in the first hour, i.e., early), it is as if he sacrificed a camel. Whoever goes in the second hour, it is as if he sacrificed a cow; whoever goes in the third hour, it is as if he sacrificed a horned ram; whoever goes in the fourth hour, it is as if he sacrificed a hen; and whoever goes in the fifth hour it is as if he offered an egg. When the imam comes out, the angels come to listen to the khutbah.”
